This event that is all about coming together as a community and making a positive impact on our village.
Date: Sunday 17th September
Time & Meeting Point: you decide!
What to Expect: The Village Tidy-Up Day is all about working together to clean up litter and debris from public spaces, streets and parks. This is an opportunity to meet your neighbours, make new friends and strengthen our sense of community.
Activities:
1. Litter Patrol: You can target streets and other public areas to pick up litter and dispose of it properly.
2. Smarten Up: Set up teams to tackle weeds around pavements and street furniture and reclaim pavements from overgrown vegetation. You may need to check with the owner first.
3. Did somebody mention potholes? See it, report it. Make a note of any defects in your street, be it potholes, a problem with pavement surfaces, broken street lights or bollards, or faded road markings. They can all be reported on the County Council website for repair https://highwaysreporting.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/
How to Participate: Mark the date on your calendar, gather your family and neighbours, and tidy your street. Don’t forget to wear comfortable clothing and suitable shoes, and bring along your own reusable water bottle and enthusiasm! Litter picking equipment is available to borrow from Sustainable Cottenham chris@sustainablecottenham.org.uk . NB: we appreciate that some roads i.e. Histon Road and the High Street, are longer than others so we may need to break those up into sections. Once you have decided to do something with your neighbours, email clerk@cottenhampc.org.uk so we can keep a track of which streets are being tidied.
